Dr. Judith Achieng
Odhiambo is the Dean of the School of Agriculture and Natural Resource
Management at Kisii University and a Senior Lecturer in Agronomy with over 20
years of experience in higher education, agricultural research, extension, and
academic leadership. She holds a PhD in Agronomy from the University of
Wyoming, USA, where her research focused on conservation agriculture, soil
nutrient cycling, greenhouse gas emissions, and sustainable crop production, in
addition to MSc and BSc degrees from Egerton University. Throughout her career,
she has established herself as a respected scholar with research interests in
climate-smart agriculture, conservation agriculture, soil health, crop
production, agricultural education, indigenous food systems, and agribusiness
development. Dr. Odhiambo has successfully led and contributed to numerous
nationally and internationally funded research projects supported by
organizations such as the World Bank, USAID, the African Development Bank, and
the Schlumberger Foundation. She has published extensively in reputable
peer-reviewed journals, supervised numerous postgraduate students, and
presented research at international scientific conferences. Beyond research,
she is passionate about mentoring young scientists, particularly women in STEM,
promoting innovation in agriculture, and strengthening partnerships between
universities, government, industry, and farming communities. Her work continues
to advance sustainable agricultural development, food security, and climate
resilience in Kenya and across the African continent.

Joseph Kimutai Langat, a duly registered member No. 777 of the Soil Science Society of East Africa (SSSEA) Kenya Chapter, is a senior lecturer of crop and soil sciences, Department of Agricultural Sciences, Kisii University, Kenya, and ILO-SIYB Certified Trainer in GYB-SYB-IYB (https://webapps.ilo.org/siybgateway/Certification.action?id=128812). He serves as Adjunct Research Scientist at the African Institute for Capacity Development (AICAD), whose mandate is capacity building for poverty reduction in Africa by collaborating with the AICAD on applied research projects that address African development challenges such as sustainable development, co-authoring high-impact publications, building research networks, and contributing expertise and funding to jointly advance research, innovation, and knowledge transfer. Dr. Kimutai holds a PhD (crop ecophysiology from Moi University, MPhil (Moi), BSc & Diploma agronomy (both from Zhejiang University, China), postgraduate diploma in Mass Communication (KIMC, Nairobi) and a Diploma in Science Education. He served previously as a high school teacher (1989-2000), senior seed inspector KEPHIS (2000-2004), senior editor in charge of research and publishing- Jomo Kenyatta Foundation (2004-2015), Board of Management Chairperson of six schools at diverse dates (2010- date), Chief Officer Education Bomet County (2015-2017), and Dean- School of Agriculture at Lukenya University, Mtito Andei (2018-April 2019), University examination officer, and Campus Director in charge of Kisii University, Eldoret Campus (2022-2023). He is a CASSCOM member of Nyamira and Bomet County (2021-date), Editor-in-Chief of AJAUSUD Journal (2025- date), Chairman- Kisii University Agritech (2020-date), Chairman- Department of Education- Catholic Diocese of Kericho (2023-date), Chairman Bomet County Education Board (2024-date), Chairperson of the National Governing Council of the 47 County Education Board Chairpersons, among other accolades. He served as Editor-in-Chief (EiC) in the 2nd Kisii University International Multidisciplinary Conference (10-12 September 2024), whose theme was Strengthening African Economies Through Innovations for Sustainable Development, with 8 sub-themes and over 24 tracks. Peer reviewed and presented works were published in the Kisii University Book of Abstracts. Dr. Langat also serves as the EiC of the upcoming 3rd Kisii University International Multidisciplinary Conference scheduled for 9th to 11th June 2026, whose theme is Reimagining Inclusive and Borderless Knowledge through Global Health for Sustainable Development. He has won numerous national and international scholarships and project grants, published widely in a number of high impact journals in his area of expertise (crop and soil). In December 2024, Joseph led a team of scientists as PI and won two 8-months project research grants worth Ksh. 500,000. He has supervised many undergraduate student projects and more than 10 MSc and PhD approved soil, crop and agricultural extension projects that lead to the award of the degrees of the University. One MSc student he supervised graduated in 2021, while three of them graduated in 2025. He is trained and qualified in diverse fields: mass communication and journalism, report writing, senior management course (KSG), financial management, educational institutions management, winning grants project proposals writing, seed and plant varieties development, certification standards & processes. He is a consultant, a mentor to many, and conducts a number of humanitarian activities in the Kenyan villages.

Dr. Martha Kemunto Nyang'au is a Lecturer
at Kisii University in Kenya. Currently she is the Chairperson of the
Department of Agricultural Education and Extension (2025 to date), a position she had served for 7years (2013 -2019). As a chair person of the
deparment, she oversees academic administration, curriculum alignment, course
allocations, work plans, PCs and departmental strategic growth. Dr. Martha Nyang’au is currently the
secretary to the Academic Quality Assurance Committee of the school of
agriculture and Natural Resources Management (2023–Present). She is Member of the Agritech Expo and Conferences
of the school of agriculture (2024 to
date). Her scholarly work centers on agricultural education, agricultural
extension, youth participation in decision-making, and methods of teaching
agriculture. She has published numerous research articles and authored a book on Agriculture Projects
Implemented by Form Four Agriculture Students for Kenya Certificate of
Secondary Education.
Dr.
Martha Nyang’au lectures in
the department of Agricultural Education and Extension of Kisii
University. She has supervised one PhD and two MSc students to student to
completion. Currently she is supervising one PhD and two MSc students. Dr. Martha Nyang’au has also examined one
PhD and three MSc theses. She has a
long teaching experience of 36 years (22) in High school where she served as a
deputy principal for 2 years and 14 years in University (2012 to date), She has
participated in the revision of the curriculum of Agricultural Education and
Extension to align it with (CBE) in 2024. She is registered with the Soil
Science Society of East Africa, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and a licensed TVET trainer

Dr. Gichana Zipporah Moraa is a Lecturer and
Chairperson of the Department of Environment, Natural Resources, and Aquatic
Sciences at Kisii University, Kenya. She is a freshwater scientist and
aquaculture researcher with expertise in aquatic ecology, limnology, water
quality management, and sustainable aquaculture systems, particularly
aquaponics and recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS).
Dr. Gichana holds a PhD in Natural Resources and Life
Sciences (Distinction) from the University of Natural Resources and Life
Sciences (BOKU), Vienna, Austria. She also holds an MSc in Aquatic Sciences
from the University of Eldoret and a BSc in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences from
Moi University. In addition, she earned an International Postgraduate
Certificate in Applied Limnology from BOKU University, Austria, and an
International Postgraduate Certificate in Limnology and Wetland Ecosystems from
the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, the Netherlands.
Her research interests include freshwater science,
sustainable aquaculture systems, aquaponics, aquatic toxicology, aquatic
biodiversity conservation, bioremediation, climate resilience, and the
sustainable management of inland aquatic resources. Her work integrates
ecological monitoring, aquatic toxicology, and nature-based solutions to
address environmental challenges and promote ecosystem health, food security,
and environmental sustainability.
Dr. Gichana has extensive experience in university
teaching, postgraduate supervision, curriculum development, research project
management, grant management, and community engagement. She serves as a member
of the Kisii University Institutional Scientific and Ethics Review Committee
(ISERC), where she contributes to the ethical review and oversight of
scientific research.
She
also plays an active role in advancing international research collaboration and
academic capacity development. She serves as the Kisii University
Representative to the Austria–Africa Research Network (Africa-UniNet), where
she promotes collaborative research initiatives and strengthens institutional
partnerships between African and Austrian universities. She also teaches in the
International Joint Master's Programme in Limnology and Wetland Management, a
collaborative programme offered by BOKU University, Austria, the IHE Delft
Institute for Water Education, The Netherlands, and Egerton University, Kenya. Additionally, she is an Adjunct Researcher at the African Institute
for Capacity Development(AICAD), contributing to multidisciplinary research,
innovation, and regional development
Dr. Gichana also serves as the Matron of the Kisii
University Environmental Club, where she mentors students in environmental
leadership, conservation, climate action, environmental awareness, and
community outreach initiatives, inspiring the next generation of environmental
professionals. She is also a Certified Trainer of Trainers (ToT) accredited by
the International Labour Organization (ILO).
She
has successfully secured competitive national and international research grants
from Kisii University, the Austrian Partnership Programme in Higher Education
and Research for Development (APPEAR), and the Austrian Development
Cooperation's Cooperation in Development Research (KOEF). She has also served as a Consultant Trainer for the
Kenya Market-led Aquaculture Programme (KMAP) implemented by Farm Africa and as
a Consultant Investigator for Pure Earth (formerly Blacksmith Institute), New
York, undertaking environmental assessments and research on toxic pollutants.
Dr. Gichana has published more than 36 peer-reviewed
scientific papers, serves as a reviewer for several international scientific
journals, and has supervised and examined numerous postgraduate and
undergraduate research projects. She has also contributed to academic
curriculum development and institutional policy formulation.
She is an active member of several professional
organizations, including the Eastern Africa Water Association (EAWA), AQUAHUB
Network, Scientists of Kenya Association (SCOKA), the Society for Freshwater
Science (SFS), and the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing
World (OWSD). Through
her teaching, research, leadership, and international collaborations, Dr.
Gichana is committed to advancing freshwater science, sustainable aquaculture,
environmental conservation, and evidence-based management of aquatic and
natural resources to support sustainable development.
