Fredrick O. Wanyama is an accomplished academician, currently serving as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Research and Student Affairs at Kisii University. He previously served as Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Research, Innovations & Extension at Murang'a University of Technology; and before that, as Deputy Principal, Academic, Research, Innovations & Extension at Murang'a University College. He is on leave of absence from Maseno University as an Associate Professor of Political Science, where he served in various positions, including Director and Dean, School of Development and Strategic Studies for seven years. He earned a PhD in Political Science from Maseno University and Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Political Science from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. With a research interest in development politics, he has contributed many chapters to academic books; several articles to refereed journals like Democratization, Journal of African Elections, Annals of Public and Cooperative Economics, Journal of Cooperative Studies, Africa Development, and Regional Development Studies, among others; and entries in encyclopedia. He is the author of Cooperatives and the Sustainable Development Goals: A Contribution to the Post-2015 Development Agenda (Geneva: ILO, 2014); co-author of three books, including Social and Solidarity Economy: An Opportunity to Enhance Youth Employment (Turin: International Training Centre of the ILO, 2013); and co-editor of Cooperating out of Poverty: the Renaissance of the African Cooperative Movement (Geneva: ILO, 2008). Prof. Wanyama is a Fulbright Scholar; a German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Scholar; and a Fellow of the Five College African Scholars Program, University of Massachusetts, USA. He has consulted for many international organizations, including the International Labour Organization and the World Bank.
