Welcome to the Department of Mathematics and Actuarial Science at Kisii University, School of Pure and Applied Sciences. The Department of Mathematics is housed in the Sakagwa building at the Main Campus third floor. At the Department of Mathematics and Actuarial Science, we service all other schools in the university by teaching and supervising all related Mathematical causes. We do offer exceptional opportunities for study and research in Mathematics at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. While striving to fulfil the gaps identified arising from the needs survey, the programmes have been designed to recognize that its graduates shall
a) Have strong educational orientation and teaching knowledge in order to provide adequate knowledge, skills and abilities that will:
(i) Enable successful performance of education systems in academic organizations
(ii) Integrate all educational organization systems
(iii) Strategize Secondary and Tertiary levels of education and its systematizations of functions.
b) Exhibit strong educational principles, good interpersonal communication skills, values and virtues through:
(i) Appropriate teaching, training and observations of codes of conduct in the teaching profession.
(ii) Effective and efficient trained team work capable of doing a job with minimal supervision.
(iii) Excellent work assignment and demonstration
(iv) Being educationally inquisitive and objective in job performance and achievements.
c) Have strong analytic and critical thinking, knowledge, skills, attitudes and abilities to:
(i) Solve educational problems in academic institutions.
(ii) Conceptualize and systemize functions, principles, procedures, and data in academic institutions
d) Design and implement educational solutions that enhance performance in educational institutions as intended.
(i) Acquire, process, design and store academic knowledge and information for the benefit of the society and mankind at large.
(ii) Help staff and students in schools and colleges to attain their educational goals in life.
Goal of the proposed Programmes
a) To prepare graduates who are practical in their approaches to scientific teaching.
b) To meet the increasing demand of mathematicians in the labour market
c) To equip learners with the learning capacity and capability to harness and implement relevant emerging educational issues.
d) To provide graduates with requisite skills needed in the management of research Institutions.
