REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
ANATOMY, PATHOLOGY GRADE FOURTEEN (14)
Requirements for Appointment
To be eligible for appointment to the position of Associate Professor, the candidate must have:
a. a Doctor of Philosophy degree (Ph.D/ D.Phil.) from a recognized/accredited Institution;
OR
MMed or MDS, and Specialist training;
b. a cumulative of three (3) years of teaching or research experience at university level since becoming a Senior Lecturer;
(i) have research output points comprising at least thirty-six (36) points from refereed scholarly journals and/ or university level book, six (6) points from postgraduate students' supervision and two (2) points from publications in conference proceedings since appointment to the position of Senior Lecturer;
(ii) evidence of continued evaluated effective teaching and successful supervision of graduate students;
(iii) Attended and contributed at learned conferences, seminars or workshops;
(iv) Evidence of recognition and registration by a relevant regulatory body where applicable;
(v) Evidence of membership or affiliation to a relevant professional body where applicable;
(vi) Evidence of contribution to community, national and international service;
(xi) Evidence of contribution to University service through participation in Departmental matters, student,s academic advising, and School and University meetings and committee membership, among others; and
(vii) Evidence of having developed proposals that have attracted funding.
Duties and Responsibilities
An individual appointed as an Associate Professor shall:
(i) teach and assess courses in one's discipline/ area of specialization at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
(ii) supervise undergraduate students' projects and other experiential learning programs;
(iii) supervise dissertations/ theses at postgraduate level;
(iv) assist in developing/ review of undergraduate and postgraduate courses;
(v) initiate, promote and participate in research projects and publish research findings;
(vi) provide academic leadership through program development, mentoring and research;
(vii) provide professional and community services, and initiate strategic partnerships and linkages, and undertake fundraising for the University; and
(viii) carry out administrative and such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.
SENIOR LECTURERS
Duties and Responsibilities
An individual appointed as a Senior Lecturer shall:
(i) teach and assess courses in one,s discipline at both undergraduate and post graduate levels;
(ii) supervise undergraduate student,s projects and other experimental learning programmes;
(iii) supervise dissertations/theses at postgraduate level;
(iv) assist in developing/review of undergraduate and postgraduate courses;
(v) initiate, promote and participate in research projects;
(vi) participate in academic leadership programmes;
(vii) provide professional and community services, and initiate strategic training and research partnerships and linkages, and such other duties and responsibilities as maybe assigned from time to time.
(viii) Carry out administrative and such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.
SENIOR LECTURER (CLINICAL MEDICINE) GRADE THIRTEEN (13)
Requirements for Appointment:
To be eligible for appointment and/or promotion to the position of Senior Lecturer the candidate must have:
(i) a Doctorate degree (PhD) or its academic equivalent from an accredited/recognized institution;
(ii) a cumulative or evidence of three (3) years of teaching/research experience at University level since becoming Lecturer/Research Fellow;
(iii) research output points comprising at least twenty-four (24) points from refereed scholarly journals, six (6) points from postgraduate student,s supervision and two (2) points from publications in conference proceedings since appointment to the position of Lecturer;
(iv) evidence of having developed proposals that have attracted funding to the University;
(v) attended and contributed at learned conferences, seminars or workshops;
(vi) evidence of continued evaluated effective teaching and research;
(vii) evidence of contribution to University service through active participation in Departmental matters, student,s academic, and School and University meetings and committee membership, among others;
(viii) evidence of recognition and registration by the relevant regulatory bodies where applicable; and
(ix) evidence of membership or affiliation to the relevant professional body where applicable.
SENIOR LECTURER (AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION) GRADE THIRTEEN (13)
Requirements for Appointment:
To be eligible for appointment and/or promotion to the position of Senior Lecturer the candidate must have:
(i) A Doctorate degree (PhD) in the relevant discipline or its academic equivalent from an accredited/recognized institution;
(ii) a cumulative or evidence of three (3) years of teaching/research experience at University level since becoming Lecturer/Research Fellow;
(iii) research output points comprising at least twenty-four (24) points from refereed scholarly journals, six (6) points from postgraduate student.s supervision and two (2) points from publications in conference proceedings since appointment to the position of Lecturer;
(iv) evidence of having developed proposals that have attracted funding to the University;
(v) attended and contributed at learned conferences, seminars or workshops;

A minimum of six (6) publication points if the applicant is from practice/industry.

Requirements for Appointment:
To be eligible for appointment to the position of Lecturer, the candidate must have:
(i) An MSc degree in the relevant area from an accredited/recognized institution;
(ii) A minimum of twelve (12) research publication output points from refereed scholarly journals and two (2) points from publications in conference proceedings,
OR
A minimum of thirty-two (32) publication points if the applicant is from a research institution,
OR
A minimum of six (6) publication points if the applicant is from practice/industry.
(iii) evidence of recognition and registration by the relevant regulatory body by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
(iv) evidence of membership or affiliation of the relevant professional body where applicable.
(v) A doctorate degree (PhD) will be an added advantage

Requirements for Appointment:
To be eligible for appointment to the position of Lecturer, the candidate must have:
(i) A doctorate degree (PhD) from an accredited/recognized institution;
(ii) An MSc degree in the relevant area from an accredited/recognized institution;
(iii) A minimum of twelve (12) research publication output points from refereed scholarly journals and two (2) points from publications in conference proceedings,

Requirements for Appointment
To be eligible for appointment to the position of Tutorial Fellow, the candidate must have:
(i) a Bachelor,s degree and a Master's degree from an accredited/ recognized University:
(ii) demonstrable potential for university teaching and or research during the appointment interview and also during the contract period;
(iii) registered for a relevant Doctorate (Ph.D.) degree
(iv) evidence of membership or affiliation to the relevant professional body where applicable;
(v) Proficiency in computer applications;
(vi) Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance;
Duties and Responsibilities
An individual appointed as a Tutorial Fellow shall:
(i) assist senior academic members of staff in assignments allocated by the CoD;
(ii) undertake a relevant Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) programme or MDS or MMed;
(iii) provide professional and community service, and participate in initiating strategic training and research partnerships and linkages; and
(iv) carry out such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.
CLINICAL INSTRUCTORS GRADE ELEVEN (XI)
(NURSING, CLINICAL MEDICINE)
Requirements for Appointment
To be eligible for appointment to the position of Clinical Instructor, the candidate must have:
i. Bachelor,s degree in the relevant field from a recognized institution.
ii. A minimum of 3 years experience in a busy hospital in the relevant discipline
Duties and Responsibilities
a) Prepare, conduct and supervise practical classes or courses.
b) Participate in research and student projects.
c) Ability to teach Diploma courses in their respective discipline
d) Service and maintain scientific equipment as per the operational instruction manuals.
e) Ensure that equipment spare parts and supplies are available.
f) Assess, determine and evaluate requirements for assigned practical work.
g) Manage students at the hospital
h) Any other official duty as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
LABORATORY TECHNOLOGISTS
SENIOR TECHNOLOGIST II GRADE TEN (10)
(Pharmaceutical Technologist, Biomedical Technologist, Biochemistry Technologist, Animal Health Technologist)
Requirements for Appointment
To be eligible for appointment to the position of Senior Technologist II, the candidate must have:
i. Bachelor,s degree in the relevant field from a recognized institution.
ii. A minimum of 3 years experience as a laboratory technologist in the relevant area or in a busy hospital
i. Prepare, conduct and supervise practical classes or courses.
ii. Participate in research and student projects.
iii. Service and maintain scientific equipment as per the operational instruction manuals.
iv. Ensure that equipment spare parts and supplies are available.
v. Assess, determine and evaluate requirements for assigned practical work.
vi. Any other official duty as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor
STUDENT WELFARE
ASSISTANT DEAN OF STUDENTS GRADE TWELVE (12)
Requirements for direct appointment
For appointment to this grade a candidate one must have:-
a) Master,s Degree in Social Sciences, Education, Psychology or equivalent qualification from a recognized University/Institution.
b) At least six (6) years working experience in provision of student,s services and handling of student welfare matters preferably in a recognized educational institution.
c) Demonstrable information communication technology skills in relevant computer packages from a recognized institution.
Requirements for serving officers
For appointment to this grade an officer must have:
a) Master,s Degree in Social Sciences, Education, Psychology or equivalent qualification from a recognized University.
b) Served for at least Three (3) years in a relevant position in the University in provision of student,s services and handling of student matters
c) Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
SENIOR STUDENTS COUNSELOR II GRADE ELEVEN (11)
Academic / Professional Requirements
a) Master,s degree in Counseling/ Clinical Psychology, Psychology, or its equivalent
b) Be registered by relevant professional body.
c) 3 years experience as a Student Counselor I
a) Prepare and develop a comprehensive counseling plan.
b) Prepare and administer questionnaires for new students for use in counseling.
c) Liaise with academic advisors in identifying the students who need counseling and make the necessary arrangements to help them.
d) Prepare and keep accurate records of counseling services at the University
e) Recommend students for work-study programme.
f) Carry out psychological assessment and diagnosis to staff and students
g) Supervise staff under them.
h) Any other official duties assigned by immediate supervisor.
SENIOR SPORTS OFFICER GRADE ELEVEN (11)
Academic / Professional Requirements and Experience
a) Master,s degree in Physical Education or its equivalent from recognized institution
b) Have a valid practicing license where applicable
c) Member of relevant professional body where applicable.
d) 3 years experience as Sports Officer I
a) Supervise staff under them.
b) Coordinate planning, organizing and developing games and sports activities.
c) Coach and officiate various games and sports activities.
d) Responsible for students going for external fixtures.
e) Popularize sports and games activities among students
f) Any other official duties that may be assigned by immediate supervisor.

The above positions carry remuneration packages which include basic salary, medical cover, house allowance, transport and leave allowance.
