Digital Pathways for Social and Environmental Justice
Lead Researcher: Dr. Ronald Tombe, PhD
Dr. Ronald Tombe, a researcher at Kisii University, is leading efforts
to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation with
Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) to enhance agricultural productivity and
resilience to climate change. His work focuses on empowering small-scale
farmers, particularly women and youth, by providing AI-powered tools for
climate forecasting, crop management, and market access, while preserving
cultural heritage. Through initiatives such as big data platforms, youth
training in data science, and the creation of Agricultural Social Networks
(ASNs), Dr. Tombe is fostering transdisciplinary collaborations to bridge the
gap between traditional farming practices and modern technology, ultimately
promoting equity, sustainability, and resilience in agriculture.
