Lead researcher: Dr. George Ngwacho Areba, PhD
Dr. George Ngwacho Areba leads the project from Kisii University,
alongside co-researchers from KSU and the United Kingdom. Running from June
2024 to March 2026, this study aims to explore how digital mobile tools can
improve teaching and learning in the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya. The research
focuses on primary teachers and learners displaced by conflict and natural
disasters, investigating how mobile technology can help overcome the unique
challenges they face in accessing quality education. The project seeks to assess
the role of digital tools in shaping teachers' experiences, evaluate teachers'
competencies in integrating technology, and explore how digital resources can
be adapted to enhance inclusive education. The outcomes include policy
insights, development of a toolkit for teachers, and design of digital tools to
support effective learning in refugee contexts.
