Kisii University is currently geared towards becoming a premier University in Kenya and indeed in the East African region. Our vision is to be a World Class University in the advancement of the Academic Excellence, Research and Social Welfare in the 21st Century involved in conducting up-to date teaching, research, innovation, and community extension for the improvement of the social welfare of humanity, in particular and society in general. Kisii University Main Campus is situated at Nyamage area in the outskirts of Kisii Town (off the Kisii-Kilgoris Highway) in Southwestern Kenya. In addition, the University has satellite Campuses that are strategically located in Kisii Town, Keroka, Nyamira and Gucha Townships. Kisii University has got diverse student population who come from different parts of Kenya and Eastern Africa. Currently, the student population is 8,014 students enrolled in different academic programs. The students are involved in a wide array of academic and intellectual endeavors and have diverse life experiences. However, all our students are driven by a common urge, goal and ambition of excelling in their academic and life-long endeavors.
The Kisii University academic and administrative staff is committed toward preparing students to acquire relevant skills, knowledge and competencies required in their professional fields; this will enable them live wholesome lives in a rapidly changing and dynamic global environment that is being driven by post-modern technology. In this regard, the University is committed towards achieving highest standards in teaching, research, innovation and community extra-mural affairs for the advancement of humanity and enhancement of the social welfare of Kenyans and the global citizenry.
Apart from academic, research, and consultancy endeavors, other life support services are provided with an aim of enhancing student and staff social welfare. These initiatives include student counseling on HIV and AIDS and provision of spiritual nourishment, and other life-long aptitude skills and competencies. Particularly, students are encouraged to maintain high standards of individual and group discipline and social integrity in order to fully utilize the resources that are availed to them by the Kisii University Council and Management. To assist students achieve personal and societal goals, we pay special attention to critical issues as concerns ethical conduct in all spheres of life including academic, social and spiritual domains. In this regard, we expect students to conduct themselves with high levels of moral integrity and practice intellectual honest and be able to express themselves freely while respecting diverse opinions of other people. However, it should be noted that Kisii University, as is the case with other institutions of higher learning in developing countries, is confronted with several challenges. Thus, we urge all the students to be actively engaged in providing suggestions that can assist overcome these challenges and improve our overall performance as a tertiary institution. These suggestions should be freely channeled to the student leaders, Dean of Students, Chairpersons of Departments, lecturers and administrative staff.
Last but not least, the information that is availed in the subsequent sections provide a useful guide on issues as relates to the University Administrative structure, policies, services, rules and regulations governing student conduct; responsibilities and channels of communication available to them to enhance a good academic and social environment.
